**Child Protection Policy for SJJFNZ Sanctioned Jiu Jitsu Tournaments**

**I. Purpose and Scope**

This policy aims to protect children from potential harm or abuse while participating in Jiu Jitsu tournaments sanctioned by the Sport Jiu Jitsu Federation of New Zealand (SJJFNZ).

**II. General Principles**

1. SJJFNZ is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all children at tournaments.

2. All concerns, allegations, or disclosures of harm or abuse will be taken seriously and handled promptly.

3. SJJFNZ will cooperate with relevant authorities and organizations to ensure child protection.

**III. Code of Conduct**

All individuals working with children at sanctioned tournaments must:

1. Treat all children with respect and dignity, ensuring their safety and well-being.

2. Maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid engaging in any form of inappropriate conduct.

3. Report any concerns or allegations of harm or abuse to the designated Child Protection Officer (CPO) immediately.

4. Attend training and education programs on child protection and safeguarding as required by SJJFNZ.

**IV. Recruitment and Screening**

1. SJJFNZ sanctioned tournaments must conduct thorough background checks, including police vetting, for all appropriate staff, volunteers, coaches, and referees working with children at sanctioned tournaments.

2. Individuals with a history of child abuse, violence, or any other relevant criminal offences will not be permitted to work with children.

**V. Reporting Procedures**

1. A designated CPO will manage child protection issues and concerns at sanctioned tournaments.

2. The CPO will assess the situation and, if necessary, report the incident to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

**VI. Training and Education**

SJJFNZ will provide regular training and education programs on child protection and safeguarding for all staff, volunteers, coaches, and referees working with children at sanctioned tournaments.
